Short answer

What is a Muse connector?

A Muse connector is an add-on that lets Meta Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, work with an outside product: read your data, take actions, or both. Connectors in the Muse directory have been reviewed by Meta; custom connectors you add yourself from a public MCP server address have not. For marketing, connectors are how Muse reaches your website, search data, ad accounts, and email platform.

What a connector actually does

On its own, Muse can plan, write, and browse. A connector gives it a proper, signed-in way into a specific product. Once a connector is added, you can ask Muse things like “why did my Instagram ad costs go up last week?” or “add a Book now button to my homepage,” and it uses that product’s tools to answer or act.

Every connector publishes a list of tools. Some only read: pull a report, look up keywords. Others can change things: publish a page, pause a campaign, send an email. That difference matters more than anything else when you choose one, and we cover it in what a Muse connector can change.

Directory connectors and custom connectors

There are two ways a connector reaches Muse.

Directory connectors
Makers submit these through Meta’s Muse Connector Platform. They are reviewed for functional, security, and legal requirements and tested end to end before they appear in the Muse directory. Meta’s editors can also choose connectors for featured placement.
Custom connectors
You ask Muse to build a connector from a product’s public MCP server address. This is how you add a tool that isn’t in the directory yet. Custom connectors are not reviewed by Meta, so you are trusting the maker directly.

Most of the marketing connectors we track publish an address you can add as a custom connector today. Our guide to adding a connector to Muse walks through both routes.

What MCP means, and why you’ll see it everywhere

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside tools. A product that runs an MCP server describes its tools in a way any compatible assistant can use. That is why the same connector often works in Muse and in other AI assistants, and why makers give you an address that looks like a web link ending in /mcp.

You don’t need to understand the protocol to use one. What you need from the maker is the address, a way to sign in (an account login or an access key), and a clear description of what each tool can do.

The marketing connectors worth knowing

Marketing connectors fall into a handful of jobs: building and running your website, SEO, paid ads, analytics, email, and word of mouth. These are the ones we rank.

How to choose your first connector

  • Start with the job, not the tool. If your website is the problem, a website connector will do more for you than an analytics one.
  • Prefer connectors that show you a change before it happens, such as a preview, a draft, or a campaign created paused.
  • Check what it costs to keep using it, not just to try it. Prices range from free to several hundred dollars a month per brand.
  • Add one connector at a time, and ask Muse to list its tools before you use it for anything that changes a live account.

Frequently asked questions

Are Muse connectors free?

Adding a connector to Muse doesn’t cost anything by itself, but many connectors need an account with their maker. Of the connectors we rank, pricing ranges from free (AdLoop’s open-source version and Social Perks’ free plan) to $590 per brand per month for Adside’s self-served plan, billed annually.

Do I need to be technical to use Muse connectors?

No. You add a connector by asking Muse, and you use it by asking in plain English. The one technical detail is the connector’s address, which the maker publishes.

Is a Muse connector the same as an MCP server?

Close. The MCP server is what the maker runs. The connector is Muse’s saved, signed-in connection to it.
